The ink and toner cartridges in printers will always run out of eventually, but (depending upon your make and model of printer) can also be very expensive to replace.
Prices can sometimes vary quite widely between cartridges by the manufacturer of the printer and cartridges by other companies (although these are sometimes also cheaper to buy directly from the printer's manufacturer. Prices amongst ink and toner retailers can also vary quite a bit - and a retailer which is the cheepest for a particular model of printer may not be cheepest for another.
